SEND @ South Shore Academy

Our vision at South Shore Academy is for all learners, regardless of barriers to have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is ambitious and designed to give all learners, particularly the most disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and / or disabilities (SEND) or high needs, the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.  We develop those core life skills and personal values which ensure that when the pupils leave school they are able to thrive as well-rounded moral citizens at college, further education or employment.

The wishes of parents and pupils are paramount in any decision-making process which enables them to access high quality education and other outcomes and effectively prepare pupils for adulthood. Pupils will have access to high-quality provision to meet the needs of young people with SEN. At South Shore there is a focus on quality first teaching, inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning. The pupils are encouraged to have high ambitions and progress is tracked to ensure that their goals are achieved. We promote positive outcomes in the wider areas of personal and social development and all pupils have access to enrichment activities and opportunities. With high aspirations and the right support, most pupils can go on to achieve successful long-term outcomes in adult life. Our four main aims for the future of our pupils are:

-Higher education and/or employment – including exploring different employment options,

-Independent living – enabling people to have choice and control over their lives and the support they receive,

-Participating in society – including having friends and supportive relationships, and participating in, and contributing to the wider community

-Being as healthy as possible in adult life.
