EAL Information

EAL Department

The EAL department at South Shore Academy supports all students for whom English is an additional language. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil is able to access the mainstream curriculum and raise achievement in all their curriculum subjects. We celebrate the importance of cultural diversity.

All students for whom English is an additional language, sit maths and English tests upon arrival to allow us to determine an up to date understanding of the level of support that that particular student will require. Most students, after the initial two day induction, will be buddied up with a student and subsequently will receive bespoke EAL lessons in addition to their normal timetable. Staff who teach EAL are always available to support in any way.
